Pokémon Scarlet and Violetplayers will soon have a chance to receive a limited-time Pokémon but this opportunity comes with a unique requirement.
To claim this exclusive reward, fans must attend the 2025 Pokémon Japan Championships, a live event scheduled for June 21–22.
Those present at the venue will be able to obtain a special Amoonguss inspired by the one used by Ray Yamanaka, the 2024 Senior Division World Champion.
This version of Amoonguss reflects Yamanaka’s strategic build, featuring the moves Spore, Sludge Bomb, Rage Powder, and Protect.
Interestingly, instead of the commonly used Pollen Puff, which heals allies, Yamanaka chose Sludge Bomb,
adding offensive pressure through potential poison damage — particularly effective against Grass-types or Pokémon equipped with Safety Goggles.
Amoonguss commonly holds a Rocky Helmet or Sitrus Berry. Rocky Helmet deals recoil to physical attackers, working well with Rage Powder to draw in and punish hits.
This setup makes Amoonguss a solid answer to popular threats like Urshifu Rapid Strike, a frequent pick in competitive formats.
Yamanaka’s full championship team included Amoonguss, Rillaboom, Raging Bolt, Calyrex Shadow Rider, Incineroar, and Urshifu Rapid Strike.
Amoonguss is usually a support Pokémon, but Sludge Bomb gives it offensive power, making it effective against popular Fairy- and Grass-types in the current meta.
